My Creative Psychotherapy practice integrates Play Therapy and Art Therapy and offers a gentle and creative way of expressing emotions, thoughts and experiences in a safe and confidential space.
The power of therapy comes from the relationship between the therapist and child; sessions are typically 1:1 with just the child and therapist present. This facilitates the development of a secure and trusting relationship so your child feels safe to fully express themselves and work through their difficulties.
Children use art and play to communicate at their own level and at their own pace. While language can be part of the sessions, Art Therapy and Play Therapy provide opportunities for children to draw and play out thoughts, feelings and difficulties rather than expecting children to find words for experiences that may be too challenging or painful to express verbally. Put simply "toys are like the child’s words and play is the child’s language" (Landreth, 2002).
I work in a non-judgemental way, and sessions are generally non-directive and child-led. However, themes or directives may be offered when appropriate.
I provide a safe, confidential and child centred space to help with experiences and issues such as;
